What would be a good camera for paranormal investigations that doesn’t cost a fortune?

I prefer the Sony Camcorders because they have infrared capabilities (for night work).
A fairly inexpensive filter can be added to shoot only infrared.
Ultra Violet Pass Filters (allowing in only ultraviolet light) are expensive but this spectrum of light is usually ignored.
I use tape (DVR) because digital cameras with editing software is so easy to alter that it’s useless as evidence. One time use mini DVD’s might be OK but no one will accept it (just like film) without looking at the original.

If a ghost manifests itself and is visible to the human eye then it can be recorded with *any* video camera. Then it just comes down to the degree of resolution and format that you want.

I use Sony Hi 8 digital with night shot and super night shot. Works great!

Most are pretty affordable and will do what you want them to do. I think alot it has to do with what you want to do with the camera. If you want to do night shots, a camera with 0 lux capabilites is the route you want to go. Truly, it is a matter of where you buy, the same camera at Wal mart might not cost as much as one at your local camera shop.

our team uses sony Hi8 it has better night vision than the mini dv . you can also buy infra red lighting to place in the area your working to enhance your capabilities and it is easy to download to dvr for review

If you want good ghost movies, get a VHS-C camera with low resolution and poor night vision. Then you can use your imagination about things.
If you want a really good quality camera, check out the Canon GL1 or Canon XL1. These are slightly older, proline camera. If you fish around you will be able to get one on ebay or amazon for under $1000. The 3CCD feature ensures superior color capture.
You don’t need night vision.
If you are investigating places in the dark, you are looking for bad footage that allows you to use your imagination.
However, canon optura offers decent night vision.
I probably sound like im selling canons, but I have had a lot of luck with canon camcorders.
